- Baby is not gaining weight as expected
- Baby makes clicking sounds while feeding
- You are experiencing nipple pain, cracking, or trauma

Breastfeeding is hard enough without tongue-tie making it harder.
A lot of new mums spend weeks in pain, wondering what they are doing wrong. They try different positions, different techniques, and nothing works. Their baby is unsettled, feeds take forever, and they are exhausted.
More often than not, the problem is not the mum. Tongue-tie is present in approximately 3% of babies and restricts tongue movement enough to make feeding genuinely difficult for both mum and baby. It is one of the most treatable causes of breastfeeding difficulty, and treatment can be completed in a single visit with Dr Raj Khillan at Western Specialist Centre.
The most important thing to know is that you do not need a GP referral to see us. You can book directly, get a clear answer, and know exactly what you are dealing with.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a GP referral to book?
No. You can book directly with Dr Raj Khillan at Western Specialist Centre without a GP referral. Please note that without a Medicare referral, appointments are not eligible for a Medicare rebate. Our team can discuss fees when you enquire.
How long does the appointment take?
The initial assessment appointment typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. If a frenotomy is recommended and performed at the same visit, the procedure itself takes approximately 15 minutes.
Will the procedure hurt my baby?
The procedure is generally brief and most babies settle quickly. Dr Raj uses sterile scissors and the procedure does not typically require local anaesthetic. Babies can usually feed straight after. Dr Raj will explain everything in detail before proceeding.
My baby is a toddler. Is it too late?
No. Tongue-tie can be assessed and treated in toddlers and older children as well. The considerations are different to a newborn, and Dr Raj will assess your child’s specific situation at the appointment.
What if the assessment shows no tongue-tie?
If tongue-tie is not the cause of your baby’s feeding difficulties, Dr Raj will discuss other possible explanations and next steps. You will leave with a clear picture of what is happening and what to do next.
